AMD Readies New Six-Core and Quad-Core Phenom CPUs
Apparently, Advanced Micro Devices is on a veritable central processing unit release spree, planning not just new Athlon II CPUs but a whole new collection of quad-core and six-core Phenom II models as well.
As one would expect, with the arrival of the third quarter and, of course, the impending holiday season, chip makers are apparently expanding their product lines.Advanced Micro Devices appears to be especially aggressive in this regard, at least that's what a recent report made by X-bit Labs suggests. The two main starts of the report are the Phenom II X6 1100T and the Phenom II X6 1065T, both with their very own advantage. The former, the X6 1100T that is, will be the most powerful CPU on AMD's part once it comes out, with all of its six cores clocked at 3.30 GHz.The latter, the Phenom II X6 1065T, has a frequency of 'only' 2.90 GHz but has a TDP (thermal design power) of 95W, making it the strongest six-core with such a low power draw. Both siblings have 9 MB of cache memory and support the Turbo Core technology, which can dynamically overclock used cores and power down unused ones when applications demand it.Of course, these two will be accompanied by what is poised to become its most competent quad-core central processing unit as well.Known as the Phenom II X4 975, this CPU will have a core clock of no less than 3.60 GHz, as well as a TDP of 125W and 8 MB of cache memory.Other CPUs that should start to sell sometime during the next few months, and which may or may not have been revealed by leaks already, include six other hexacores and another quad-core.The Thubans are the Phenom II X6 1090T, 1075T, two 1055T (with 125W and 95W TDPs), the X6 1045T and the 1035T.As for the other quad-core processor, it goes by the name of Phenom II X4 970 and has 8MB of cache, a TDP of 125W and a core clock of 3.5 GHz.
