lots of trouble with itunes. please help!!

first: none of the items (videos and songs) that i bought from itunes will play on my ipod. it just skips over the song to the next one. i realized that on my computer, the actual files of the purchased songs have little locks on them and say that they're protected, but i have no idea how to unlock/unprotect them.
second: none of my songs will play on itunes. i double click them, and they show up in the box like its going to start playing, but it never moves past 0:00. but whats really weird, is that videos will play.
please help! i'm going away soon and i cant listen to half the songs on my ipod!
Additional Details
i already called them once, and they told me to delete everything having to do with itunes, and i did and it made no difference.

It think you just need to activate your computer to play those files. You need to log into your apple itunes account and click on authorize this machine. Once authorize you should be able to play all your files without any problems. You can only authorize up to 5 machines at a time. If you reach the max 5 then you will have to deactivate one or more machines before you can activate another one. |

Update iTunes, if not call Apple.
Overall, iTunes is one of the worst applications I've ever used. It is completely bloated, I've written better software. |

If you want to remove the copy protection, then you can go here:http://www.tuneclone.com/m4p-converter/unlock_protected_aac_convert_to_mp3.html to remove it. However, you should know before doing so that circumventing or removing copyright is illegal in the U.S. due to the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. Also, I have never used the software before (it was just the first result on a google search) so I can't vouch for it's quality personally. It is also possible (although unlikely) that the files themselves are messed up so that removing the copyright will still not make them work. |
